Learn Mindfulness Meditation

Sign up now for the next session

Tuesdays, January 27 – March 24 6:30 – 8:30 pm

$195 Includes 2 Textbooks ($175 for members)

Mindfulness Meditation, practiced regularly, has been scientifically proven to positively affect the way the brain processes difficult emotions under stress, and offers us a method for living in the now, and experiencing our lives directly, with greater equanimity and joy.

Join Audrey Walzer, Director of the Camarillo Yoga Center, to learn the fundamentals of non-religious mindfulness meditation, with the structure and support of a group setting. Develop an ongoing personal meditation practice by understanding and cultivating awareness, in seated meditation practice, and in everything we do.

Our program contains reading and meditation practice to do at home, with books, handouts and guided meditation tracks to help you, so if you miss an evening, you will still be able to keep up with the program!   Benefits of the course will be greater if you do make the time for home reading and practice.

All are welcome. Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.

Scientists have verified the positive effects of meditation!

Breastfeeding Group with Tara Stivers

Fridays 1:30 – 2:30 pm

E-mail with questions.

Whether you are becoming a mother for the first time or the fifth time, one of the most significant contributors to the success and enjoyment of breastfeeding is the support for your decision to do so from those around you. Come get answers to your questions, share your experiences and find or lend a sympathetic ear in a friendly and supportive environment. We discuss everything from breastfeeding your newborn, to pumping, to going back to work, as well as more general topics such as infant behavior, sleep patterns, soothing fussy babies and starting solids. Breastfeeding isn’t just about feeding your baby!

We welcome all new mothers and their nursing babies, whether exclusively breastfeeding, partially breastfeeding, pumping and feeding, or navigating the weaning process. A scale is available to weigh your baby.

This weekly drop-in group is facilitated by Tara Stivers, a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), certified doula, prenatal/parent educator, and mom.

No registration is required. There is no fee to attend, however a donation of $5 – $10 is appreciated to help cover costs.

Active Birth Workshop

Dorothy Hanchey & Son Edison Bean

Dorothy Hanchey & Son Edison Sunday Bean

Sunday, October 19 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Join Tara Stivers for a workshop designed to provide mothers-to-be and their partners with tools to help them be active participants in the birth of their child.  This workshop does not replace a traditional childbirth class series, but is a good supplement for those wanting more information about physical and mental strategies for labor and birth.  It can also serve as a refresher for those who have given birth before.

You will learn:

  • Non-pharmacological pain releif techniques (for part or all of your labor)
  • Positions to help labor progress
  • Support tips for the partner
  • Tips for communicating with your care provider(s)
  • How to apply prenatal yoga concepts to labor and birth (though no yoga experience is required)
  • Why active participation can lead to a more positive birth experience

Tara Stivers is a certified birth doula, childbirth educator and lactation consultant who leads the prenatal, breastfeeding and baby classes at Camarillo Yoga Center.

Pre-registration is required.  Contact Tara at 805.504.3920 or to sign up.
